Even possessing various gifts and wealth, without God's love, we would be like a resounding gong. If we had the gift of prophecy, all knowledge, power, and faith, but lacked love, we would be nothing. If we gave away our wealth to the poor and experienced daily intoxicating sex without love, it would mean nothing to us. The fruit of a good life is love, characterized by patience and kindness. Whoever abides in love is not envious or boastful, not selfish, or malicious. They are just and rejoice in the truth. They endure everything and never lose trust or hope. Love never fails and is not like a bank account balance, nor even like the gift of prophecy or tongues.
