You read English, you understand English, you've been learning for years, but when it's time to speak, your mind just freezes and the words don't come out.

You're in the middle of a conversation in English, things are going just fine and then suddenly you forget one simple word.

You can see it in your head, you know exactly what you want to say, but the word just disappears and that tiny moment of silence...

It's a normal part of speaking any language, even your native one.

The problem is many learners panic, they freeze or they give up and stop talking altogether.

Not the forgotten word itself, but that feeling of, oh no, I can't say this.

They'll save your conversations.

It's about finding your way around the words you forget.

Let's go through them one by one.

The Present Simple tense

The one everyone thinks is basic is actually tricky for many B1 and higher level students.

Sometimes it's not even about confidence and you might not even realize these mistakes are happening.

So there will be practical tips, tips you can use right away.

It's happening on Wednesday the 29th of October 2025 at 8.20pm.

You can sign up using the link in the show notes or...

episode description somewhere there, somewhere below, wherever you're listening.

So grab your spot and let's finally make the present simple work for you.

You know what most of us do when we forget a word?

We start feeling the silence with a or um.

You try to remember the word.

Your brain is working so hard, but the more you push, the more your mind goes blank.

So here's the secret.

Instead of hiding it, say it out loud.

Say I forgot the word.

It's not a sign of little knowledge.

We're just humans and words often fail us.

You anchor yourself in the moment.

It's on the tip of my tongue.

The feeling, that feeling, when you almost remember, but not quite, that's the one.

You can say, oh, it's on the tip of my tongue.

For example, what's the name of that actor from Interstellar?

It's on the tip of my tongue.

What's the word for?

What's the word for extremely tired?

So when you ask this question, it invites people to help you and it keeps the talk going and shows that you're still communicating, not freezing.

You stayed relaxed and the conversation didn't die.

I can't think of the word right now.

I can't think of the word right now, but I'll describe it.

You even sound professional.

The ability to feel other people's emotions.

So the pause is unnatural, human.

The listener doesn't lose trust in you.

Quite the opposite.

Oh no, I've just forgotten the word.

Oh no, I've just forgotten the word.

It's right there.

It creates connection and takes the tension away immediately.

What's the name of that thing again?

What's the name of that thing again?

What's the name of that thing again?

You know, the thing that... This one is one of my favorites, because it's how real communication works.

You know, the thing that you can use to make videos, but not a camera, the smaller one.

So here's the truth.

They rely on strategies.

And describing something is a sign of fluency.

So you forgot the word book swap.

The next time your mind goes blank, don't panic, take a breath.

The best way to improve is by actually speaking.

On Wednesdays we still have two spots left at 6pm for B1 plus slash B2 level learners.

This is the moment to start speaking.

The Tuesday group at 5.20 pm is perfect for you.

Go ahead and check this offer at teacherola.com forward slash grupy.

What's the name of that thing again?

You know, the thing that you use to make videos, but not a camera, the smaller one.

Now you've got a set of really useful phrases to tackle everyday challenges in English and you know how to use them.

But remember, learning vocabulary is just the first step.

The real improvement comes when you actually start using it in conversations.

If you've ever felt that even simple grammar, like the present simple, sometimes trips you up or you're not 100% confident you're saying things correctly, I've got something for you.
